Minecraft Earth (MCE) is an AR mobile game where players can discover a new dimension of Minecraft as they create, explore, and survive in the real world. Through this game we built a community of builders and explorers spanning the planet, collect resources for builds, craft them in augmented reality and then place them at life-size and multi-player adventures.

Minecraft Earth was produced at Blackbird Interactive (BBI) in conjunction with Microsoft. Our team at BBI was in charge of designing and implementing several of the core features of the AR game such as – Crafting, Smelting, Seasons (challenges), Boosts and more.


As the sole designer on the team, my responsibilities included collaborating with the designers from Microsoft (Redmond) on new features, designing user flows and UI for upcoming features, analyzing data provided from usability tests and writing specs for new features . I could see designs from concept to implementation with a team of UI artists and programmers in house.

The game has since sunseted in 2021 however this remains one of the closest projects to my heart. I grew as a designer, experienced managing and running a team, and was the point of contact for Microsoft.
